Getting to know gretchen

Gretchen Mitchell loves to bring people into freedom. This usually involves helping set people free from the things they believe about themselves and the world that are unhealthy or untrue. During sessions, she works on two levels: teaching practical strategies and skills to help you with the issues at hand, and then deeper work to discover where the issue comes from and bringing healing into that area of trauma or pain.

Gretchen usually works with "normal" people during a transition time in their lives. She considers it a privilege to listen to the deep things you may not have shared with anyone ever before and offers a non-judgmental space to share what's on your heart. She is kind and thoughtful and answers your questions with wisdom, never expecting something from you that she wouldn't do herself. Gretchen would consider it an honour to journey with you for a season.

Gretchen also feels a strong call to release powerful women into their destiny, being their champion as they overcome obstacles to growth.

Gretchen has been a psychologist working in Private Practice since 2006. Prior to that she worked as a Youth Worker for five years. In that time she has encountered many different types of people and issues and as a result has grown particular skills and interests in the following areas:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Emotional Overwhelm

  • Self-harm

  • Relationship Breakdown

  • Self-esteem

  • Communication

  • Adolescents

  • Couples

  • Pre-Marriage Counselling

  • Christian Clients

Gretchen offers counselling to male and female clients aged 10 years and older.

Gretchen predominantly uses a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework with some Mindfulness and Choice Theory techniques thrown in to spice things up a bit! She also works a lot with emotions and provides a safe place to process and release those emotions linked with past experiences, in a healthy and beautiful way. You will experience a lot of freedom as a result of her unique style.

Counselling sessions run for 55 minutes.

If you have a Mental Health Condition, Medicare offers 10 rebated sessions with a psychologist in a calendar year. Please book a consultation with your GP to see if you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan. If you are, you can access the rebate in your sessions with Gretchen. These can be accessed either in person, via online video call or phone call.

You can meet Gretchen at her offices, out at a coffee shop, park or even on the beach if you would prefer.
